Should Old Aquaintance Be Forgot…

…and never brought to mind.

I wish this could happen to me.

This way, I wouldn’t have conversations with people that bring up stuff from my past and dredge up feelings and images that were long locked away. For some, and even sometimes for me, conversations like this can be cathartic. This one wasn’t. This one probably shouldn’t have happened. Fortunately, the subject moved on to other topics that weren’t so painful, and that helped.

Some things should remain locked away. Far, far away.

I’m throwing away the key.

(let me get back to you on this.)

___________

We rang in the New Year with some friends and family, playing poker in the early evening and then moving on to Dungeons and Dragons after midnight. My hubby busted me out of my all-in hand with his third 10 on the river, but I had him with a pair of kings the poker gods gave me on the turn. S’ok though, it makes up for me busting him out in Thursday night’s game with our nephew and his sister. (At least it SHOULD!)

We outdid ourselves with the food. Sweet sausage, hot wings (drumsticks), latkes, bean salad, fruit salad, ceasar salad, chips, dips, sweets.

Good times.

R gave up waiting for the ball to drop around 10 or so. M held out to see the ball drop, and to light off some fireworks, but then he petered out too. Us parental units stayed up until 5am or so. Luckily, the kids did better than I hoped for; they stayed asleep until 9am, which was fabulous for me, who got up with the kids. Usually they get up earlier, which was what I was expecting.

So, thanks, boys for the extra two hours. Mommy loves you.

Other noteable thanks:

Thanks…

  • to all who brought food to the party. Everything was delicious!
  • to Publix, who makes a yummy ice cream cake. Baskin-Robbins who?
  • to B, who sharked all of us out of our poker chips. We’ll be looking for you on the World Poker Tour soon, ok?
  • to B & D, for coming down to visit your sister and spending your New Years with us.
  • to L, C & A, for coming to visit us so soon after moving in to your new home. We had a great time with you, and can’t wait to see your new home!
  • to my hubby, the firework lighter extrordinaire. You can light my fire anytime!
  • to N & R, for giving M some time away from his pesky brother. :)

Happy New Year!!
