Memo to Me: You Can’t Please Everyone

May 19, 2009

So, if you know me in real life, I’m kind of a people pleaser.

No, seriously, I am.

You can stop laughing now. Seriously.

It is my goal in life to make people happy. Content. Thrilled with everything.

I will bend over backwards, I will borderline (or just outright) annoy you making sure you are happy. I will drive you nuts.

It’s a gift, people. One I’d love to return to the store for a full refund. But I’ve been told there was a 30-Day return policy, and we’re 30+ years past that point.

Or it’s a side effect of my Jewish guilt.

Anyway.

If I have learned anything in the past few days, no matter how hard I try, no matter how personal I take things, no matter how much I listen, and try to accommodate…

YOU SIMPLY CAN NOT PLEASE ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE.

Even if you want to. Badly. Desperately.

You’re welcome.

I hear you. I’m a mediator, a peacemaker. Sometimes there is just no peace to be made. And that, my dear, is okay.

Good memo. Sometimes even a pleaser (I’m one, also) needs to give herself a little reminder! :)

    Amen to that!

I used to be a people pleaser but stopped when I realized that it felt like nothing I ever did was right. I put way too much pressure on myself then got mad at others when they did not just adore me. It’s all too much, I say! :)

And the worst part of trying to please everyone it’s you that sometimes ends up displeased – and you can’t complain because you brought it one yourself. Or at least that happens to me. ;+)

Good luck with those people who are pleased, despite your best efforts.

I know the feeling (italian guilt in my case)- you can’t make yourself miserable trying to please everyone. Just be content with the decisions you make. That’s the most important.
